About Me

I finishing college after my service, I spent five years with Xerox Corporation (1971-1976).  Changing industries, I went to work for a J&J company sellling the CT scanner.  Five years later, I left J&J to start my own company, King's Medical Company, where we have just celebrated 30 years of being in business.  My wife, Sandy, and I have been married for 45 years and have been blessed with three children, one of which is a son who was born with birth defects as a result of my exposure to Agent orange.  In addition, there are three grand children and a wonderful son-in-law.  God has blessed my life.

About Me

I service in the Co. D, 1 st. Bn., 7Cav from 1968-1969. My comrades call me Happy Frankie. I landed to “Nam” at the beginning of the TET Offensive in January 1968 in the Bien Hoa Air Base. That night it was attacked and the emmo domo blow away. I don’t suffer anything because I was celebrating my arrive. I never drink so much beer like that night. I was really drunk!! Anyway, after that I expended 11 months and 25 day fighting in the jungle. My beloved moment? The time we service in the Ashau Valley. Really bad time. Located in western Thua Thien province, the narrow 25-mile long valley was an arm of the Ho Chi Minh Trail funneling troops and supplies toward Hué and Danang. But whe take it.

Some of my bodies there were: Hector de La Rosa, Harry, Sgt Brown, Squad leader Miller, Armstrong, Cid.

We fight in Hue, Quang Tri, Da Nang, DMZ, Khe Sanh, Long Binh, Cambodia frontier

After leaving Viet Nam in 1969 (as Sgt E-5) I was sent to Fort Benning, 29th Infantry, Ga. and service as Honor Guard. I was released from active duty and received my Honorable discharge in 1969 (Early release for school).

I finish college after my service: BA in education and MA in School Administration. I spent seven years working as a teacher, 12 as School Director and about 12 as General Supervisor with the Adult Education Program (Puerto Rico Department of Education). I retired in 2005.

My wife, Lydia, and I have been married for 33 years and have been blessed with two children, one of which is a girl: Tamara who lives in New York, the other is Khalil Omar, for now living with us here in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. In addition, there are two more sons from a prior marriage: the oldest one is Jean-Paul who resides in North Carolina. He blesses me with three grandchildren (Jean Paul, Jean Rene and Amanda) and a wonderful daughter-in-law, Mariela. My youngest son is Rene.

As a result of my exposure to Agent orange I have cancer and other health difficult but that is not a problem to. I’m very happy and I think that God has blessed my life.

About Me

I was born in October, 1929, and raised in Portland, Oregon.  Went to Gonzaga High School in Spokane, WA, and after high school did 3 yers in the Naval Reserve, then joined the National Guard.  I was assigned to an Aviation Engr. Bn. as a Hvy. Eqpt. operator and Prime Mover driver at Fort Leonard Wood, then as a Transportation Cadre at Fort Riley, KS.

Lucky me, I was sent to Korea in early '51 and assigned to HQ 2nd Bn (The Ghost Bn), 7th Cavalry.  I was a command driver, company armorer, watchdog and all around utility grunt, do-all-whatever.  We were pulled off the line in Dec. '51 and went into garrison in Hokkaido, Japan.  My tour was up in May, '52.

I went back to over-the-road-trucking for the next 40 years and retired with over 2 million safe miles.  My wife, Karen, and I have three sons, a daughter, four granddaughters and a grandson.  Along the way, I raced motorcycles (flat track) and sports cars, achieving some notoriety.  I shot competitively in High Power and Long Range (1000 yd.) matches.  Started with an '03 Springfield, then an M1 and other bolt match rifles and an AR (M16) based match rifle.  At one time, I held five NRA National records.  I'm semi-retired from some competition, but still shoot Long Range Matches.  Still hunt deer and elk and frequently fish on my son's charter boat, business name "Legend Sportfishing".

I was part of the original group with Chuck Daugherty in establishing the Columbia Willamette Chapter.  Will Hayden and I were privileged to represent the 1st Cavalry as Color Guard at the Memorial Day ceremonies at Willamette National Cemetery.  I have been active with the Korean War Veteran's Chapter of the 7th Cav. Regt.  Unfortunately, I had to stand down from some activities due to previous commitments as a VFW Chaplain and Honor Guard member, church Elder and 'other stuff''......but you know, "once a Trooper, always a Trooper"!

The photo, above, was taken in October, 1951, Line Wyoming, Korea.

About Me

I joined the Army for three years on May 2,1974

After Basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky and A.I.T. at Fort Sill Oklahoma I was sent to Fort Hood Texas to serve in the 1st Cavalry Division with Battery F/79th AFA (aerial field artillery) AKA Blue Max. F/79th was an attack helicopter unit that originally consisted of three companies of armed Huey's but it was eventually changed to an all Cobra unit and was designed to give immediate air support to ground troops. It had been inactivated in Vietnam in 1972 then re-activated in 1974 just around the time I enlisted. Eventually the company was inactivated again so I was transferred to HHB DIVARTY 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood and that's where I stayed until my ETS on May 1, 1977
